Life is a Balancing Act

So we are now a couple weeks into the school year, and let me tell you it is not easy balancing school, work, social life and fun! I am a full-time student, but I only have class two days a week because I also have two online classes for a total of five classes. I also have a full-time job where my two days off during the week are Tuesdays and Thursdays. I also volunteer at the local nursing home when I have extra time. Outside of school and work I also have homework to do (and there’s quite a bit since I have online classes). Now assuming I still have energy (which I often don’t) I have friends and family I want to talk to and video games I want to play.

Now I would say that I’m a perfect student and always get my homework done on time and do all of it before I do anything fun, but anybody who knows me would see how big of a lie that is! I eventually get my work done, it can take a while sometimes though.

I’m not going to say working your way through college is easy, nor am I going to say it is for everyone, but it IS doable. If you have the dedication and determination, you can definitely pay your own way through school. Budgeting is the key to balancing life; budgeting your time, budgeting your money, budgeting your focus. It is better to take a few extra minutes to plan out when you are going to do everything rather than just diving right in and figuring it out as you go. Your plan doesn’t have to be set in stone because life is unexpected, but following some sort of plan helps you stay focused and accomplish everything you set out to do.

Well I’ve probably ignored my homework for long enough, but I felt bad that Nina and I haven’t been updating lately! It’s Halloween time in retail meaning we are going to be busy until after Valentine’s Day (Halloween turns into Christmas turns into Valentine’s Day). We both love you guys!!!

Home Ownership

As I posted three weeks ago (I can’t believe it’s been that long already since I posted), I had some fixer-upper type projects that I wanted to accomplish at the house. The good part is that with the help of a friend and coworker, my husband and I have managed to get quite a few projects completed.

Two weeks ago we fixed the fence, added a screen door onto the front of our house and figured out what was wrong with the ceiling fans inside. Oooof I cannot tell you how amazing it is to have a fence that is completely standing again. And the screen door adds a nice touch of character to our house that makes it feel like ours.

This last week, we replaced the broken doorbell, and we fixed both of our ceiling fans in the house. We now have the ability to use both fans on whatever speed we would like without the fear of them falling down on us. We also decided to attempt to fix the dishwasher, however, that still remains to be a project I do believe. We fixed half of the problem which was it backing up into the sink when it would be doing it’s dishwasher thing.

Overall, the house we bought has not been a huge fixer-upper project but we have found ways to make it a fixer-upper house. There are still a lot of things that we would like to accomplish around the house and the yard. These things include:

  1. the yard (fixing the prickly and weed situation)
  2. replacing the AC (we found out it is as old as our house itself)
  3. replacing some light fixtures
  4. installing cabinet handles

So overall, many of those items are as we go and of course as our budget allows. I would also like to get the ceilings repainted by a professional at some point down the road as well.

Thankfully, we have amazing people who surround us who can help us do these projects and who teach us how to do certain things as they come to help us. It’s exciting to watch the progress from the house we bought to the home we’re creating for ourselves.

On a compltely random side note:  Beth is now back in school…. and that kinda stinks haha. But more on that later!

So I, being as young as I am, am relatively new to the world of “adulting” and I just gotta say, this is hard work! I’m currently a week away from starting school again. So this time next week I will have begun my struggle of juggling a full-time job, full-time schooling, volunteer work, exercise, social life, and sleep.

Last year I wasn’t working full-time so it was easier to manage school and work. But since my promotion to shift lead, I now work 30-40 hours a week. I’m loving the new position (amd the pay raise is pretty nice too 😂) and seeing as how I don’t have much of a social life, my summer has been not much more than simply working.

This time last year is when I moved to Fargo. When I moved out of my parents’ home. When I moved away from the town I grew up in to start my adult life on my own. And it is scary! I can’t believe it’s been a year, yet at the same time I can’t believe that’s it’s been ONLY a year. So much has happened to me this past year, both good and bad. I’ve met so many people who have had such a huge impact on my life. Looking back I feel like “how did I manage life before I met these weirdos?!?”

As I sit here on my lunch break at work I’m looking back on my life. I’m trying to imagine the fact that by this point in my life, my grandma was already married and starting a family. I’m trying to realize that only 5 years ago I was getting ready to start my first year of high school. I’m starting to realize that I’ve grown up so much, yet I still have so much growing to do (not physically because obviously I’m gonna be this short for the rest of my life). I’m so thankful to everyone who has helped me in life to grow into the woman I am. If you have to ask me if you’re one of them, you probably aren’t. You guys know who you are and you already know this, but I love you ❤️❤️❤️

Alright that’s about enough of that introspective emotional crap for today! Thanks for reading guys!

Face Masks

So I’m not usually a face mask kind of gal, but Nina and I were at the mart of walls the other day and we saw a bunch of masks on a sale so we decided, what the hell let’s have a “girl’s night” and do face masks!

Overall, the masks weren’t too bad. They weren’t anything spectacular and I definitely still don’t understand the obsession with them, but it was an ok way to waste half an hour.

We both got a face sheet mask and a collegean lip mask. We started with the sheet masks. If you’ve never used a sheet mask before, be warned: they feel slimy!! It was very cold and slimy when I put my mask on. I also felt like the mask was going to fall off. (PS it didn’t) the two of us say and watched Law and Order while letting our masks sit. It was kind of difficult to speak with the mask because it felt like you would either get some of the mask juice in your mouth or the mask would slip every time you moved your face.

The lip one was down right weird!! If you have issues breathing through your nose, do not use this mask!!

In all, I couldn’t tell a lick of difference after using the masks. Only thing I felt they did was get weird feeling, cold gel stuff all over my face.

Random Thoughts From Nina

Feel free to add me on Snapchat!

Alright, so the last two weeks have been absolutely insane in both Beth’s and my life butwe have not forgotten about the blog one bit. I figured I would pop in to at least give some sort of a post and who knows, this one might be the one I have the most fun writing because I’m just going to cover many different topics and ask for “group” participation (that’s from you readers out there).

My first random thought this last week was when I was looking at my calendar and Vikings games started showing up for pre-season football…. UGH! (I don’t really like football, I just like that I get to eat junk food all season and no one judges me and then I get to get crazy for the Super Bowl). I am not dissing football in any way, I respect the sport and for the most part the players… but what about Hockey…. why do we have to wait so much longer for hockey to start? I mean really though… You know, I never really cared about ANY sport until I started dating my husband, he’s the one who did this to me. But come hockey season, there may be a post about our room in the house that is dedicated to WILD hockey! 😉

My second random thought was if I had to choose one project to do on our new house, what it would be. I’ve been keeping a list in my head of things that I want to do over the course of home ownership to our new house but they are all of course pricey and time consuming. I have narrowed it down to my top 3 fixer-upper projects… and they are as follows: 1. replace our entire yard, because it is full of weeds and prickly things that make it so that I cannot enjoy sitting, laying or walking around barefoot in my yard (that also includes fixing our fence that got blown over from the wind in a storm 2 weeks after we bought our house). 2. I would like to hire someone to either come repaint all the ceilings in our house or to remove the nasty popcorn ceilings all together (and repaint). 3. Lastly, I want to buy some supplies and trim down our trees and remove some bushes that are near the front of the house. We got most of those nasty bushes out but they are going to grow back because that’s how they are 😦 After that is done, I wanna find a way to fill in the area that was behind them and underneath them because there is exposed spotsunder the kitchen which is not damaging to our house at all but just looks weird.

The last thoughts that have been on my mind this week are those of politics. I majored in political science (which my co-blogger always makes fun of me for), but I loved it. If I had to go back and do it again, I would have probably picked a different college to do politics/criminal justice as a double major. But alas, Concordia College at Moorhead does not have a criminal justice program so I was stuck with what I could get which was political science. In my years at Concordia, and certainly my few years since, I have grown to view politics in a different light. I am not your typical American voter for my age. I defy almost all of the odds and I think there are a lot of us out there who are just too afraid to speak up. I am a middle class, white, 24 year old female CONSERVATIVE Republican. I believe in the right of free speech, the right to bear arms and in the pro-life movement. That is not to say that I do not see the side of the opposite belief system. That’s just a small other tidbit about me that probably won’t come up often but politics is a great deal of my life.

Anyway, time for the participation part of the post!

I’m going to list 3 things and I want your comments to be suggestions for what I should look into. I’ve been super bored lately and wanting to expand my horizons in terms of these three topics and well let’s face it… my husband is getting irritated with me playing the same things over and over again ;). Here goes:

  1. Music. Comment bands and/or songs that I can add to my playlist.
  2. Movies and television shows. I am an avid tv watcher so bring it on! I will even take youtube video suggestions (Beth, this one’s for you so that I finally understand your jokes).
  3. Books. I love reading and have a whole Kindle full of books but want some suggestions from the readers of our blog.

Thanks in advance for participating and please comment and share with your friends so that they can have fun participating too!

Thank you for reading.

Top Purple Review

Here’s the thing about this post… Nina just moved into a new house a couple months ago. This is going to be probably a recurring theme throughout our blog considering the fact that we have a place to test household items where we aren’t worrying about paying it back later (as in when we try to get a deposit back).

A little bit about the finding of Top Purple cleaning product. We found this at the Red River Valley fair when we went together this summer. We made the mistake of going into the vendor booth (bad idea for two females who have nothing to lose by trying new things and the word ‘SALE’ also didn’t help). Basically, we obtained 3 different sized bottles of this “miracle cleaner” for a rather cheap price. The best part, the lady did some tests for us right there!

These tests included glasses of one of our cohorts that day, sunglasses, phone screens, and the rings we were wearing. We were seriously impressed at the versatility of this product and we couldn’t wait to try it on even more items.

Alas, back to the topic at hand: Nina’s house. More specifically, the shower upstairs. This shower head was DISGUSTING! It clearly had issues and the pressure of this shower head was not fantastic. So, here we went with our Top Purple. We sprayed some on (a little bit seriously goes a long way), and we waited a couple minutes and started to scrub at it with an old cloth. The sales lady suggested paper towels but given the nature of the job we opted for an old washcloth. After a couple applications and a little bit of Beth Elbow Grease… we managed to get a ton of the limescale and calcium buildup off of the shower head.

While this did not fix the problem fully of the water pressure, it did help a ton. We will probably have some other examples of the use of this product but you could say that we highly recommend this. It is “non-toxic, non-delicious,” so it is safe for families with small children, and those with pets.

If you wish to check it out or perhaps order some for your own home, here’s the link to their website! They are based out of Florida and everything is made right here in the USA.

As always,

Nina and Beth
